The Aviator’s Garden
Welcome to the Aviators' Garden at Base 31 in Picton, ON, where we celebrate the vital role of pollinators in the local ecosystem. Mondo Forma was commissioned to design and build two major installations in the garden: The Pollinator Hotel, which serves as the main entrance, and a central sculptural installation featuring a large, rainbow-painted steel bee.
As the Creative Director, I spearheaded the creative vision and oversaw the design and production team. I also managed all aspects of client communication.
The Pollinator Hotel is a colourful entranceway that is home to six "hotels" built into the honeycomb structure. These hotels offer native plants for birds and bees to rest and make their homes, while also decorating the main entrance of the Aviator’s Garden at Base 31. Our team wanted to create an installation that wa aesthetically beautiful, functional for the environment as well as educational to visitors.
Bee Happy is a larger-than-life sculptural installation that honours the humble honeybee, one of the most important guardians of the natural world. Small but mighty, bees are a symbol of community and service. As the main pollinator of countless flora, they hold a crucial but increasingly endangered role on our planet.
